Reflecting On Grief While Embracing Resilience

Take a deep breath in…hold for 7 counts of breath…and exhale for 8 counts of breath. We have been carrying heavy energy this past year. Everyone has been experiencing collective stress, grief, sometimes anger, and many other emotions. Acknowledge the heaviness while embracing your resilience. Throughout our lives, growth comes in small “aha” moments and other times, big epiphanies. We are on a constant journey, and all these small and big experiences are helping us grow into our authentic selves.

Take time to reflect on how far you’ve come, what you’ve learned about yourself, and how you’ve grown. Use the prompts below to intentionally reflect.

  1. Throughout this past year, who have you found yourself spending more time with (whether it’s a phone call, video chat, or physically distanced)?

  2. Take note of where in your life you could nourish yourself more. Write out a wheel that is segmented into friendships, family, work, self-compassion, etc., and color each section on a scale of 1-10. Which spaces in this wheel need to be nurtured? How can you invest in this part of your life?

  3. How can you continue to nurture a healthy relationship with yourself?

  4. What rituals fill your mental and emotional self with joy?

  5. What have you learned about yourself and what have you taken steps towards healing?

Remember, there is a difference between things that fill your cup, things that feel like accomplishments, and things that you “should” be doing for someone else’s approval. Take time to do a personal investigation of yourself - listen deeply to what comes up for you, the stories and emotions as well as things that light you up. We are on a constant journey of growth and healing, invest in your wellbeing.
